On June 13, 2024, Handsworth Secondary School was the scene of a police arrest of a Grade 11 student. Upon officers arrival, the situation was escalated when the suspect did not cooperate with authorities. In response, police blocked all entry and exit points at the high school to contain the situation, as the student was alleged to be hiding within the premises to evade apprehension. The lockdown and the police presence caused concern among some students, staff, and parents.
The North Vancouver RCMP confirmed the involvement of a victim with a reporter. At this time, it is unclear if charges have been laid. Further details remain scarce as the investigation continues under the community’s nose. The North Shore Nose will provide updates as more information becomes available.
